May 10. Our First Automated Election for President, Veep, Senators, etc. Don't get fooled. We voted "manually" by using a long ballot and choosing our candidates by darkening the oval spaces beside their names. The only thing "automated" is the use of the PCOS machines that receives the ballots, tally them and transmit the total votes to the Commission on Election (COMELEC). This machine (made in China where else?) runs on a program and controlled by a card that look suspiciously "hackable". Well, the PCOS and card failed several times during the testing process but miraculously worked during election day! It ran so well that people were shocked to see votes tallying within 24 hours! It normally takes us months!
Luckily, our local candidates sent us our precinct numbers and location days before the election. Smart campaign moves! We already braced ourselves for long queues and programmed ourselves not to get harassed or frustrated and it worked. It also helped that we prayed since February for an orderly and honest election. Well, I easily spotted our precinct, fell in line under a huge shaded tree, shared a joke with strangers, ate and fanned ourselves and before we know it, we were inside the precinct and voted in 5 minutes!
And this is what's left of the whole senseless campaign! Tons of paper and empty promises! Well, this Keeper is not going to allow them politicians to get away with it. I do not hesitate to present my concerns (PLUS my dogs') directly to authorities and now, I am keeping my fingers crossed (and my dogs their tails) that our new leaders will finally IMPLEMENT laws on environment, animal welfare, and cultural heritage protection. . .
