SkyWatch Friday!

My SkyWatch Friday is my tribute to the Hungry Ghost Festival last September 3. I was asked to light two white candles outside my front door to light the way for wandering spirits. Because if I don't, they will come in instead of moving along especially if you have food on the table or in the kitchen. The Hungry Ghost period is the seventh lunar month that runs from August to September and is seen by many Chinese as a 'dead' month when accidents and bad luck happens because they believed that the dead (hungry ghosts) are roaming the earth! Surprisingly, the period of Ramadan (period of fasting for my Muslim friends) moves on the solar calendar that overlaps into the Chinese lunar month! Although I am Christian and am also embracing the old earth religion, I respect these traditions and at times, I observe some of them. Surprisingly, my dogs, and the free animals down Heaven (birds, bees, flies, lizards, frogs, etc.) not to mention the plants seem to link to these traditions too. The dogs howled during the Hungry Ghost night and the plants bend their leaves as if in prayer. I stayed with them and waited for the candles to burn until midnight after which, I hugged the dogs, blew out the candle and whispered a prayer of love to my unseen visitors . . . . passing by Heaven . . . hungry . . . .
