01 October 2009

It is October 2, 6:42 AM in Manila as I write this. Tonight, we are expecting another Storm (Pepeng, considered to be a Category 5!) and people around me were panicking. It is understandable because we just had Storm Ondoy unleashed over a months supply of water in 6 hours putting cities under water until today! My brother's family who lived in Pasig was not spared. Their house got submerged but not the second level where their dog Spanky stayed when the family evacuated in chest deep waters! When the family drove to our house Heaven last Wednesday, these are the items unloaded from the van:

Tons and tons of muddied clothes and stuff! My dogs went crazy sniffing at strange scents and the excited voices recalling scary stories. Only my brother's wife and two of their teen children were home. They recalled seeing the water rise from the streets to their house within minutes before they were able to move out to safer ground. One of my nieces was abandoned by their driver inside the stalled family car on the way home from school! The driver panicked when the traffic got stalled and left his ward to rescue his own family! Her sister who was in school went with friends to rescue her riding a banca! The kids (college teens) were scared but was able to upload pictures and videos of their experiences. We were willing to provide temporary shelter for them but they already made decisions to just rent a condominium near their school. School was canceled until Monday so they have ample time to get things done. They just needed help in laundering all the muddied clothes! Some people were not so lucky. . .

Please pray for us. I started a prayer vigil every 3 PM (and AM) and hush-ing the skies to "behave" . . . but this time I can sense that this is one of the things that must pass. The storms, the earthquakes, the tsunamis are all the consequences we have to face when the planet we live in needs to renew and breathe life. Our planet is struggling to breathe and we can hear its ugly roar. After I write this, I will be preparing Heaven for the coming Storm Pepeng with mighty 300kph winds . . . .

Such scary to read.. I'm glad to hear that your brother and family managed to get out of the house and came over to you. I suppose Spanky,too.. if I understood right.. I'm sure your dogs understood much more than we believe, when they smelled on the mud clothes. Take care for you, your family and the dogs! :)

Thank you Gunilla and Viola for visiting and kind words. Yes, Viola, my brother's dog Spanky is safe...for now. And yes, dogs and most animals (don't forget the plants too) understood and KNOW more than we believe.
