This July, I saw our Birds-of-Paradise sprout her mysterious young bloom. It took only two days for this shy flower to open up and reveal her paradise of enchanting petals of yellow and red! We have two versions of the Birds-of-Paradise plant in our small garden. One has flowers that cascade downward and this one, rising upwards and opening wide. They used to bloom non-stop in our house Heaven. Yet, somehow, the extreme heat and sudden rains must have taken toll on this plant and for some months, I sort of missed her flowers until this month. And just to show how sturdy this plant can be, just look at its faded and brown flower of months past still standing tall and proud beside the new flower! Like a work of art that was frozen into a sculptural piece! A marvel of beauty and timeless grace. Much like some of the people I know . . .
May your withered petals
sing your undying songs
in my hardened ears and heart.
May your whispers continue to caress
my numb mind and clueless soul.
until I can feel and sense
eternity again . . .
And may you fly like a bird
in your own paradise . . .
