Lily

I was told there are a thousand varieties of the Lily family. And I have featured the white, yellow, blue, and now another of this variety in blue-violet! All of them are so strikingly beautiful and so rare that when I saw this particular one on several rows just outside the dining room windows of a house protected by a huge fierce looking but gentle rottweiler named Rottie (a friend of my dog Sweepy) I lost all sense of manners and made my way there and took pictures.

. . . as beautiful as a purple stone . . .

. . . as mysterious as the tiger-print lines dotting its insides.

. . . are you as moody and blooms only on whim?

. . . or are as timeless and tireless as the Queen?

In memory of cinema's legend Elizabeth Taylor.
And for Maia of
Macro Flowers who is taking a much-needed break from blogging.

And for Todays Flowers of
Santilli, Denise, Laerte and Sandy Carlson

Are you sure this is in the lily family? I might have guessed orchid or even iris. Unusual and beautiful.

I think that's the Trimezia Martinicensis from the family Iridaceae, but they are usually yellow. This is a very unique colour, and so pretty.

They look like Batik designs. An inspiration for artists. What a find.

These are beautiful!
They have so many intriguing marks.
A lovely tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. I think I remember reading once purple was one of her favorite colors which makes this even more fitting. She was certainly a legend.
