Samhain Flower

. . . and so we end at the beginning . . .
. . . as the bud slowly unfurls . . .
Macro Flowers Saturday badge 1
"This the night when the veil is thin that divides the worlds.
It is the New Year in the time of the year's death,
when the harvest is gathered and fields lie fallow.

For tonight the King of the Waning Year
has sailed over the sunless sea

that is the womb of the Mother
,
and steps ashore on the Shining Isle,
the luminous world egg,

becoming the seed of his own rebirth."
- Starhawk

Our Bird of Paradise plant gives birth to a new bud
on the week of the Halloween.

It is both magical and eternal
because at the moment
the plants bud, blooming flower and fading one
seem to represent the Samhain (Halloween) Triple Goddess:
the maiden, the mother, the crone . . .
. . . repeating the natural pattern . . .
over and over . . .
And as people scare themselves silly
me and my hounds in heaven
celebrate the beauty of life and death
in the never-ending cycle
of regeneration . . .
Our lovely Birds of Paradise plant I dedicate heartily to
Maia, Beverly, Denise, Luiz, Laerte, and Sandy
and all flower and plant lovers.

So this is your own, pretty Bird of paradise. I've never seen one in its natural environment or garden.
Happy Samhain to you and yours.
